The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for our area today that included Zion National Park, which is minutes from where I live. I was planning to go hiking with a friend today but with the sound of the flood alert we knew Zion would be our destination to see waterfalls and river flooding. I’ve been in the park during summer Monsoon floods and have seen significant river flooding but today was phenomenal, better than any previous experience I’ve had witnessing the amount of water pouring off the canyon walls. Numerous waterfalls were cascading off canyon cliffs throughout the park, some of significant size. The Zion Mt. Carmel Highway is temporarily closed due to rock falls and undercutting so our trip was restricted to Zion Canyon on this day.
